چکیده

We show that decomposing macroeconomic risks across horizon is key to uncover a tight link between risk premia and the real economy. Exposure in four-year returns to innovations in macroeconomic growth and volatility with a matching half-life of over four years is priced in a wide variety of test assets. Shorter-term risks are not priced. Importantly, we show that long-term growth and volatility capture largely common risk. We then propose a single, longterm, macroeconomic risk factor which drives out standard long-run risk measures and performs similar to the Fama-French three-factor model in cross-sectional tests. Our empirical results strongly support the use of long-horizon betas to measure macroeconomic risks in asset returns. JEL classification: E32, E44, G12

Identification of Risk Factors by Using Macroeconomic and Firm-Specific Variables Simultaneously in Tehran Stock Exchange by Applying Canonical Correlation Analysis

The main objective of this study is to give the insight of describing mixing accounting ratios and macroeconomic variables as the risk factors in Iran. The results indicate a significant relationship between book to market ratio, financial leverage, size factors and expected stock returns in the Iranian market. In consistent with the other studies, we came to the conclusion that the term struct...

Macroeconomic Risks and Asset Pricing: Evidence from a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Model

The relation between macroeconomic fundamentals and the cross section of asset returns is studied through the lens of dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models. We provide a full-information Bayesian estimation of the model using seven macroeconomic variables and extract the time series of three fundamental shocks to the economy for the period of 1966Q1-2010Q3: neutral technology (NT...

Risk Dynamics of Housing Market: Cross-sectional Variations, Time Variations and Economic Fluctuations

This paper estimates both the conditional systematic and idiosyncratic risks in the housing market using the monthly housing price data on U.S metropolitan areas over the sample period Jan 1987 to Oct 2008. Different to previous studies, this paper decomposes the total risk in housing market into both the systematic and the nonsystematic parts by introducing new model-independent approaches for...

A Model of Cross-Section of Equity Returns and Firm Dynamics

We put forward a general equilibrium model that links the cross-section variation of expected returns to …rms’life cycle dynamics. In the model all assets have the same exposure to short-run consumption risks, but di¤er in their exposure to long-run consumption risks (Bansal and Yaron (2004)). An econometrician who uses conditional CAPM regression to predict asset returns will obtain higher for...

Why is long-horizon equity less risky? A duration-based explanation of the value premium

This paper proposes a dynamic risk-based model that captures the high expected returns on value stocks relative to growth stocks, and the failure of the capital asset pricing model to explain these expected returns. To model the difference between value and growth stocks, we introduce a cross-section of long-lived firms distinguished by the timing of their cash flows. Firms with cash flows weig...
